Unique Wall Art is AI-generated art by Rupert Chesman, a Japanese-speaking creative based in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, with more than twenty years of experience making beautiful content for clients all around the world, including Chanel, Swarovski, Cosmopolitan, Vogue, Yves Saint Laurent and many others. This is where the pictures are his own.
The shop began in 2023 with a cherry-blossom calendar that sold better than anything else. The calendars are still the best sellers: the 2027 edition comes as an Art Edition and a Large-Box Planner. Around them the shop has grown into seven collections, each drawing on one Japanese tradition: the moonlit shin-hanga nocturnes of the 1920s, sumi-e ink on washi, Rinpa gold-leaf screens, the bird-and-flower pictures called kachō-e, and a gentler picture-book Japan for children's rooms.
Every image is generated with AI, directed and refined by Rupert, chosen from many, and upscaled so that it holds at the largest sizes. Printing is on demand by Gelato on 200 gsm matte fine-art paper, in the facility nearest the buyer, in over 30 countries. Nothing is kept in stock; nothing is printed that has not been asked for.
Unique Wall Art takes its idea from 金継ぎ | kintsugi, the Japanese repair of broken pottery with seams of gold. The crack is not hidden; it becomes the most beautiful line on the bowl. That is why the gold on this site is always a line and never a flood, and why the one piece Rupert would keep if he could keep only one is the bowl above.
