Are these real Japanese woodblock prints?

No. Every piece is an AI-generated image created by Rupert Chesman, inspired by Japanese traditions such as shin-hanga, sumi-e, kachō-e and Rinpa, and printed on demand on fine-art paper. They are not hand-carved, hand-painted or antique.

Who is Rupert Chesman?

A Japanese-speaking creative based in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney, with over twenty years of experience making content for clients around the world, including Chanel, Swarovski, Cosmopolitan, Vogue and Yves Saint Laurent. He lived in Japan for two years. Unique Wall Art is where the pictures are his own.

How are the images made?

Each image is generated with AI, directed and refined by Rupert, chosen from many variations, and upscaled so that it holds at the largest print sizes.

Where can I buy a print?

Only through the Etsy shop, etsy.com/au/shop/uniquewallartau. This website is a gallery; it has no cart and sells nothing itself. Every print on the site links to the shop.

How are the prints made and shipped?

Printed on demand by Gelato on 200 gsm matte fine-art paper with archival pigment inks, in the facility nearest the buyer, in over 30 countries including Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe and Japan. Printing takes one to three business days; nothing is kept in stock.

What sizes are available?

Most prints are 2:3 portrait and come in sizes from 20×30 cm up to 60×90 cm, depending on the piece. Square, tall 1:2, landscape and panoramic pieces have their own sizes. Each Etsy listing shows the exact sizes it offers.

Can I buy a framed print?

Yes. Most listings offer a framed option in black or natural wood for the most popular sizes.

What is the Sakura 2027 calendar?

Twelve months of cherry blossom by Rupert Chesman, the successor to the 2023 Sakura calendar that was the shop's bestseller. It comes in two large 11 × 16.5 inch editions, the Art Edition and the Large-Box Planner, plus a slim 14.8 × 40 cm shin-hanga calendar and a small square calendar.

Which calendar edition should I choose?

Both large editions share the same twelve scenes. The Art Edition lets the picture fill the page, with the dates kept light; the Large-Box Planner keeps the art as a soft wash behind big daily boxes for writing appointments.

How big are the calendars, and which day does the week start on?

The Art Edition and the Large-Box Planner are 11 × 16.5 inches (27.9 × 41.9 cm), printed on 100 lb coated silk paper with wire binding and a hanging hook. The slim calendar is 14.8 × 40 cm and the square one 8.5 × 8.5 inches. Every calendar starts the week on Monday.

Do the calendars ship to Australia?

The two large editions are printed and shipped from the United States, and each Etsy listing shows whether it delivers to your country. The slim shin-hanga calendar is printed and shipped within Australia. The square calendar ships within the United States only.

What does kintsugi have to do with it?

Kintsugi is the Japanese repair of broken pottery with seams of gold: the crack is not hidden but becomes the most beautiful line on the bowl. It is the idea the brand is built on, which is why the gold on this site is always a single line and never a flood.

What does 唯一無二 mean?

Yuiitsu muni: one of a kind. It appears beside the name on every page.

Can I request a custom size or a different crop?

Email ru@rupertchesman.com. Prints are never cropped to fit a frame, but larger sizes can sometimes be added to a listing if the master image allows.

What is your returns policy?

Purchases are made on Etsy and follow Etsy's buyer protection and the shop's policies shown on each listing. Because prints are made to order, please check sizes before ordering.
